Mary DeLorenzo
Geographer and data analyst with 9 years of experience in:
- maps, cartography, and geographic information systems (GIS).
- urban design, transportation
- data analysis and research.
My primary areas of expertise are mapping and data visualisation. In my maps and graphics, I try to strike a balance between two competing priorities: 1) information presentation and 2) simple, elegant design.
Throughout my career, I’ve created hundreds of maps and graphics for dozens of clients in the following industries: academia, non-profits, local government, and planning and engineering firms. Prior to consulting, I spent 5 years at the Chicago Architecture Centre, where I oversaw the research and communications division. My master’s degree in geography is from the University of Edinburgh, and my bachelor’s degree is from Lawrence University in Wisconsin in history and linguistics (with a minor in math).
Some Of The Tools I Use Are:
- R, which is used for data analysis and visualisation.
- Creative Suite by Adobe (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, etc.)
- Survey tools such as Qualtrics, SurveyMonkey, Alchemer, and others
- Esri ArcGIS (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, ArcMap, etc.)
- QGIS, Google Maps, and other mapping applications.
